History of Colonial Tour and Travel
In 1993, Maria Grazia Battaglia and Tony de Leon, who worked for the tour
operator I Viaggi del Ventaglio and the Barcelo Bavaro hotels in
Punta Cana, respectively, had already accumulated extensive
experience having worked indistinctly in many sectors of
industry Tourism companies such as airlines, travel agencies,
tour operators, hotels and sales executives decided that it was
time to start a tourist activity. Noticing how many
International Tour Operators arriving in the country had no DMC,
representation or correspondent since Dominican Republic tourism
was still in the process of organization and
institutionalization, they thought of an Incoming Tour Operator
or DMC. Mr. Tony de Leon who in those years had received a
degree in Advertising Arts, initiates the selection for the name
of the company, the main headquarters would be established in
the Colonial City of Santo Domingo and thus the name of Colonial
Tour and Travel , Immediately De Leon begins the design of the
logo and slogan of the company and arises the brand image of the
company.
During 1993 travel agency licenses were banned
due to saturation in the AAVV and TTOO market and the company
already established establishes a temporary alliance with
Milly's Travel becoming "Colonial Tour and Travel by Milly's
Travel" until the patents are released Of tourism in 1995. The
company starts with a small office in Punta Cana representing
the Italian Tour Operator Condor Viaggi today Condor Tour, later
in that same year the company becomes Turisanda correspondent
another important Italian tour operator with a huge operation in
Port Plata and the company had the need to open its second
branch in this northern province of the country to offer greater
logistical support to its customers. To further expand its
operations the Colonial-Milly's alliance decides to open the
office in central Santo Domingo on Avenida las Am�ricas.
In 1995 Colonial Tour and Travel acquires the tourist license
and becomes totally independent of Milly's Travel, transferring
the main headquarters to the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo
where it is currently located. But the company stands alone as a
public limited company until then.
More and more tour
operators were adding to the Colonial Tour and Travel client
portfolio. In 1997 the office of Las Terrenas in Samana was
opened in the Cacao Beach Hotel, where 85% of the guests in this
hotel were represented by Colonial Tour, especially the tour
operator Italturist, now called Orovacanze.
In this same
year 1997, the company's website was launched. They were very
little known interactive tools on the Internet and the site was
limited to images and static texts, its goal was to place the
image of the company's brand in the market.
During the
same year 1997, the company acquires the IATA license, giving
the first step for its great opening to the public, the sale of
hotels and packages to the Creole market is started and a
marketing company is launched directed to groups, congresses and
events to the receptive market Of other continents different to
Europe like Latin America and the United States.
In 1998,
the Puerto Plata Office was opened to provide services to the
important Italian Tour Operators Turisanda, Suntur International
and Condor Viaggi who maintained a huge operation with weekly
arrivals of charter flights to this important Tourist Polo.
In 2000, the Bayahibe-La Romana Office in Dominicus was
opened as a strategic way to support the operation of Tour
Operators that were massively launched towards this important
destination. Currently the branch of Bayahibe is one of the most
important bases of the company due to the increasing operation
of Tour Operators in this area of the Eastern Republic of the
Dominican Republic.
In 2001, the company's website
acquired a professional character and was integrated into the
fashion of interactive ".com" hotels with online reservations
for the local and international market, over the years the
website of Colonial Tour and Travel with a record of satisfied
customers and almost no claim is becoming an effective tool of
the company. It is currently one of the most visited Travel Webs

In 2002 Mr.
Edmondo Battaglia, a great collaborator of the company, a
