This was the first golf course in the entire Punta Cana tourist region. It is part of the Barceló Bávaro Resorts tourism complex. The course was originally designed in 1991 by Juan Manuel Gordillo around lakes and redone in 2010 by P.B. Dye, the son of Pete and Alice Dye of Teeth of the Dog fame. It has 25 inland lakes that meet players at 17 of the 18 holes. There are flamingos and ibis birds, turtles and huge tarpons in the lakes.

Six-time winner of the Spanish championship, Jose "Pepe" Gancedo used the tropical terrain and breezes to drive the game when designing this course amidst tropical fruit trees, palm trees and lofty coconut palms. The course combines three nine-hole courses  Hibiscus, Bouganvillea and Benjamina.
